Summer Competitive Club Soccer

Program Director

The heart of Centennial SC’s (CSC) soccer programming calendar is the Twin Cities Soccer Leagues (TCSL) Spring / Summer competitive soccer season.

The Spring / Summer season starts in early March with indoor training at the National Sports Center (Sports Hall) facilities in Blaine.  League games typically begin in the first week of May and run until early July.  League Final Four tournament and / or the USA Cup generally take up the middle of July.  During the season teams are encouraged to participate in 2 – 4 tournaments, depending on your child’s age and level of play.

Although we do not ask players to have soccer as their only sport, there is a high-level of commitment in the Spring / Summer season as players and families can expect soccer activities 2 – 4 per week, depending on age level, team, and travel for league games.  We do ask that during the Spring / Summer season that soccer be your highest priority sport.  When placed on a roster, each player commits to being at training sessions, games, and tournaments unless they are ill, injured, or have a significant family event.

Training

Centennial SC strives to provide the highest quality training for all players regardless of age or skill level in our programs.  We believe that a strong foundation of soccer knowledge and skill learned at the U9 – U12 levels of play will set up our players for the best opportunities as they move into U13 – U19 soccer.  This foundation includes ball handling skills, utilizing space effectively, and a strong emphasis on the proper tactics for small sided situations (1v1, 2v1, 2v2, etc.).

Our training programs are centered around utilizing Small Sided Games as recommended by US Youth Soccer.  Small Sided Games allow players to gain have more touches on the ball and have been shown to help players master skills and concepts faster than older training methods.

In addition to Small Sided Games, trainers will also work with players to help them master individual ball control techniques, shooting, and passing skills.

Team Formation

Summer competitive teams are formed based on evaluations conducted by independent evaluators and Centennial SC's coaching staff.  Player evaluations will be based on technical, tactical, physical, and psychological ability.  The formation of new teams takes place in late July and early August of the year prior to the Fall competitive season of play.

The purpose of summer player evaluations is to place players at a level commensurate with their skills and abilities. There are typically two evaluation sessions for each age group. All player evaluations are subject to the Evaluation Policy adopted by the Centennial SC Board of Directors.

The Centennial SC evaluation schedule is set by the Board of Directors following TCSL timeline policy. This schedule is tentative, and we reserve the right to change dates and times if necessary. Your child must attend ALL sessions for their age group.

Following the evaluation sessions, players selected will receive an electronic "bid" for a summer competitive team. Once a player accepts their bid, they are required to submit a "commitment fee" set by the Board of Directors. This payment is non-refundable. The total registration fee for the summer competitive season will be set by the Board of Directors generally by July 1, that year.  Please make sure that you are familiar with the club’s policies, fees, and requirements prior to accepting a bid.

Coaches

Centennial SC's Technical Committee is responsible for screening and placing coaching applicants with teams in the summer traveling program.  Most U9 to U12 teams will have a volunteer parent coach while most U13 to U19 teams will hire a team coach at additional expense to that team.  To help our volunteer coaches, Centennial SC actively partners with them to help them obtain the knowledge they need to be successful.  This help can include club sponsored education sessions or assistance with acquiring coaching licenses and / or certificates.  If your team utilizes a team paid coach the cost of that coach will vary based on that coach’s experience, license / certifications, off-season work with the team, and the number of training sessions the team desires with that coach.  Any fees associated with a team paid coach are the sole responsibility of the players on that team.  All coaches whether volunteer or team paid will go through the same application and screening process prior to placement with a team.
